Director of Business Development - Job Description

Job title: Director of Business Development

Department: Sales

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

Reports to: General Manager

Position type: Salary, Exempt

Responsible to increase company revenue by identifying profitable business opportunities and developing long-term business growth strategies. Utilizes extensive sales background and knowledge of industries, products, and their applications in answering inquiries from customers and in securing additional sales. Based on extensive knowledge of the company’s operation, can make use of various company functions in quick and efficient manner in furthering sales efforts and in servicing accounts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Includes recommending ways to improve sales and operations planning, attending meetings with clients and advisors, and notifying partners of key business developments.
  • Assist in the development of annual strategic sales plan for company’s diverse range of technical products.
  • Researching new markets and emerging market trends for long-term strategic planning and presenting to C-Suite.
  • Identifying M&A and partnership opportunities for presentation to C-Suite.
  • Participate in closing strategic opportunities by in-person meetings with customers and partners.
  • Gathering and sharing market research within organization in the form of recommendations.
  • Maintains complete and accurate sales data and support materials (i.e.; CRM tools) as related to yearly and long- term strategic selling and planning efforts.
  • Maintains expenses within budgetary limits. Furnishes realist yearly department forecasts.
  • Keeps General Manager, staff and sales organization informed on all major activities, new developments, and may obtain approval prior to taking any action where policies are not clear or adequate.
  • Travels as necessary to trade shows, customers etc. within the continental US up to 30% of time.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by manager
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • 7+ years’ proven experience in sales, marketing, business development and management
  • Sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong selling and excellent verbal / written skills when dealing with internal / external customers.
  • Keen analytical, problem-solving skills, and excellent presentation skills
  • Detail oriented with strong project management knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Fluent knowledge of Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting, with computer and other office machine usage.
  • Fluent speech with the ability to communicate using telephone.
  • Prolonged periods of standing/walking
